The Nepal national cricket team has officially confirmed that Sandeep Lamichhane will be joining them in South Africa. According to Neplays, it has been announced that Nepal's prominent spinner, who was unable to travel with the rest of the team due to court appearances, will now be able to join them.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and the legal representatives of Sandeep Lamichhane collaborated to submit a joint application to the Kathmandu District Court. Their request sought a modification in the scheduled court appearance. Subsequently, the Kathmandu District Court has granted permission to Sandeep Lamichhane to join his team in South Africa. As per the source, the next court hearing has been rescheduled to July 14.
Sandeep Lamichhane received permission on Sunday to proceed with his plans. According to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), Lamichhane is set to embark on his journey to South Africa at 2 AM on Monday, with a flight reservation made via Qatar Airways. Consequently, Lamichhane has been granted the opportunity to participate in Nepal's practice match in Africa, as well as the main event in Zimbabwe.
In South Africa, Nepal is scheduled to engage in warm-up matches against Scotland and the Netherlands. Additionally, they will face off against Oman and the UAE in warm-up matches preceding the main event.
The tournament is slated to occur from June 18th to July 9th. The top three teams from each group will progress to the Super Six stage, where they will compete against each other. The two teams with the best rankings in the Super Six will then advance to the final. The two finalists will secure their positions in the Cricket World Cup 2023.
Nepal has been grouped with West Indies, USA, Netherlands, and Zimbabwe in Group A.
As per the fixtures announced by the ICC, Nepal has been assigned to Group A along with West Indies, Zimbabwe, the Netherlands, and the United States of America. The Nepali team is scheduled to commence their tournament on June 18, taking on the host nation Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club in Harare.
